Sheep For SchoolsGreengate can provide a unique, educational day for your school group by bringing a small flock of friendly Lincoln Longwools into your school to explain where wool, and wool products come from.
The programme includes feeding and petting the sheep - Lincoln Longwools are very tactile. We look at the different stages of wool production from sheared fleece to wool. Children can try washing fleece, using the carding machine and spinning wheel. With the group we look and touch different woollen items such as clothing and carpets.
Older children can look at dyeing with natural products, such as onion skins and tea bags. This is not only educational but fun, the sessions can be as advanced or as simple as you need. Resources are provided for the session.
